Fur Alterations

We are a family British business, only specialising in fur and we have been performing fur alterations for over four generations.

Fur coat alterations should only be performed by professional skilled furriers.  At Furs of Mayfair, we use machines and tools that are specifically designed for altering furs including special needles and thread type designed for the unique properties of fur and to make sure that everything matches and alterations are ‘seamless’.  As professional furriers, we are skilled to mend your most delicate pieces and we will never damage your garment.

If you have a fur coat that just doesn’t fit you correctly and you need it resized, we will make it fit your body like it was made to your measurements.  We can make coats larger by adding more fur or smaller by taking it in.  Fur alterations are also available to the fur sleeves and cuffs, and adjusting the shape of fur collars.  If you decide to shorten your fur coat then we will discuss with you the options of making something else from the ‘leftovers’, such as, a headband, collar, muff etc as for environmental reasons, we recognise the importance of recycling all fur.

A common fur alteration which we perform most weeks is narrowing and softening of the shoulders on a fur coat which gives you an entirely more up-to-date look.  Other alterations which we frequently encounter include moving the arm holes up or down.  For more complicated alterations, we will advise you to have fittings as appropriate and before making final decisions, if undecided, for example on shortening the length of a garment.  We will work to your timelines and often have to carry out urgent alterations as required.
