Fur Remodel & Restyling

For over 50 years, our family business has provided a bespoke affordable fur remodel and fur restyling service.

With a history of manufacturing and supplying department stores of fur garments in former years, Furs of Mayfair is able to make garments from pelts so we are able to offer a complete ‘made to measure’ service.  We continue to work for many other furriers, wardrobe solution companies, fashion designers and well-known brands creating designs to meet their customers’ needs.

With the availability of pre-owned and vintage fur in the current market, and the durability of fur, remodelling has continued to increase.  The growing trend is also to move away from a ‘throw away’ culture and to recycle garments, with many young people using their mother’s and grandmother’s ‘hand-me-downs’ fur garments to transform them into styles that are more contemporary.  It is important for sustainability reasons that a fur coat can last for generations.  It is not a throw away product, manufactured in the developing world and by buying fewer clothing items, it reduces our carbon footprint.

Furs of Mayfair offer full fur remodels and restyling service on site at our London showroom.  We listen to what you would like to create with your fur and we recognise that for garments, some people prefer a tight and tailored look and others a loose look.  We then provide advice on the options and lastly decide on designs together.  We provide an on-the-spot quotation with absolutely no obligation to proceed, and we always do your best to work within your budget.  Fittings are arranged as required and we are committed to excellence so we won’t be completely happy with the results until you are.

Fur is an organic material, free from plastics, and can therefore be stretched and reconfigured.  Fur coats that are well maintained can be restyled after even a couple of decades. The options are endless, including

• producing a jacket with a detachable hood from a long coat
• restyling a vertical designed coat to a horizontal jacket
• making a fur lined raincoat
• making a gilet
• remodelling the sleeves and shoulders
• changing the style of the collar
• producing accessories, such as, headbands, scarves, collars, muff
• creating different teddy bears
• creating throws and cushions
• making stoles, capes and ponchos
• adding fur to non-fur coats, such as, collars and cuffs

We are a very honest family business and will always inform you upfront when a job is not feasible or just not cost effective, although we do appreciate that they are often overriding sentimental reasons.  Additionally at the start of the fur remodelling process, when we open up your coat, if we find that the skins are too dry, we will return your garment to you as we wouldn’t want you to pay for a fur remodel which could potentially lead to tears in the fur in the future.  If you decide not to remodel your fur garment, because perhaps our advice is that it may remain too heavy, we also give you the option of applying the value of your fur towards the purchase of a fur garment from our collection.

Fur is a natural product that is bio-degradable as opposed to oil based synthetic fabrics that contain micro plastics that take many thousands of years to bio-degrade.  Micro plastics do not rot, they penetrate the soil, the water supply, the oceans and our food chain.  Help the environment by choosing to remodel your fur rather than purchasing a synthetic garment. 

If you are unable to make an appointment at the London showroom for us to see the remodel required, depending on your location, we are taking appointments at your home or work address,  with a free pick-up and delivery service.
