Fur Renovations & Restorations

With our extensive experience as professional furriers for over 50 years in fur renovations and fur restorations, it has enabled us to develop a way to repair and restore pre-owned and vintage furs to their original state. 

Fur restorative and renovation services include trimming out worn areas, replacing damaged sections of fur, replacing linings, as well as repairing major tears.

Typically the worn edges that need trimming or replacing are usually on the cuffs, pockets, hemlines, elbows and collars.  It is important to Furs of Mayfair that we keep the integrity of the garment, especially where furs are inherited and we have the ability to match fur from our extensive range of fur supplies both new and pre-owed.

Furs are easily damaged by moth and mould, especially if they are not stored in a specialised cold storage facility for furs during the summer months.  Moth balls should not be used with fur coats, and with moth on the increase, they  can cause significant damage by eating the fur if not discovered early enough.  When a coat has got wet and not been dried out completely down to the leather before being put away, mould can develop especially on the linings.  Furs of Mayfair are extremely experienced in restoring your garment damaged by both moth and mould to its original condition.

We can normally always repair and reinforce linings but to renovate your garment, replacing the lining refreshes it and gives it a ‘new lease of life’.  We have a wide selection of linings and source others if you have a particular requirement.  All our linings are sewn in by hand in our London showroom.  We also provide a custom monogramming service as you may choose to have your initials monogramed or your name placed in the lining.  If you have a fur with an existing monogram that you would like changed, we can make a label or pocket from lining to cover your old monogram.
